limited responses

Found this poem floating around the internet, and oh my God. Bunnies.
The Quiet World

In an effort to get people to look
into each other's eyes more,
and also to appease the mutes,
the government has decided
to allot each person exactly one hundred
and sixty-seven words, per day.

When the phone rings, I put it to my ear
without saying hello. In the restaurant
I point at chicken noodle soup.
I am adjusting well to the new way.

Late at night, I call my long distance lover,
proudly say I only used fifty-nine today.
I saved the rest for you.

When she doesn't respond,
I know she's used up all her words,
so I slowly whisper I love you
thirty-two and a third times.
After that, we just sit on the line
and listen to each other breathe.

-Jeffrey McDaniel

I meant plot bunnies. Not actual bunnies. Not a big fan of bunnies. Unless they're the aforementioned plot bunnies, or they're dead. And skewered on wooden sticks. And covered in peanut satay sauce - in which case, YUM.

So yes. Don't you just want to expand on that world? Where words are limited and all the fillers in between conversation are useless, because words are limited.. I just.. Yes.

I have a tendency to ramble and I miss writing drabbles. Limiting myself to a set number of words to tell a story - that was fun. I should get writing again. I should.

Anyway..

HAPPY FASTING.

Be warned.. SQUEE POST!

Squee according to urban dictionary;
A noise primarily made by an over-excited fangirl.

So. New episodes of Doctor Who featuring Matt Smith as the eleventh Doctor, complete with a new TARDIS and a new sonic screwdriver.

But before I start, I have to admit that I only got into Doctor Who a couple of months ago, starting on Chris Eccleston's ninth Doctor. So I'm no expert on the minute details of the TARDIS, the Doctor's mannerisms etc.. This squee post is from a new fan's point of view, please don't clobber my n00b-ness.

Lesse.. I wasn't all that enthusiastic on Eleven's first appearance when he replaced Ten, in fact I thought it was a bit too over the top. Mind you, I'm a big fan of David Tennant's tenth Doctor, and I was sort of still teary eyed over his reluctance to regenerate. So yes.

And then came the months of waiting, until finally this appeared;

I have to say I was a little bit intrigued. But as always, I never trust trailers. (Insert a call back to my horror at the Star Trek movie trailer.)

And then FINALLY. The Eleventh Hour. The introductory episode for Eleven.

Matt Smith as Eleven : I loved how he was sort of a little bit Ten, but still managing to be different. I loved the lines the writers gave him and the outfit.. works. The stills looked odd, but after seeing the episode and how he carried it off, the outfit definitely works for him. And his 'what, what? WHAT?' made me squee a little.. okay a lot. On the whole, I really did like him.

Amy Pond : I loved loved loved the little kid who played mini-Amy! She was adorable and sweet and perfect. Was also very taken with adult-Amy. I loved the details in Amy's life - her job, her trips to see the shrink, the Raggedy-Doctor things she made, and how everyone knew of the Raggedy-Doctor, recognizing him on sight. And her boyfriend - I predict funny things from Nurse Rory.

TARDIS and the sonic screwdriver : I wasn't so sure of the TARDIS's new look at first, it was.. big. And a lot shinier than the last one, neater and more polished. But then all the details I wasn't so sure about at first made me squee when I watched it again. So so so pwetty! The sonic screwdriver.. well not much to say about that really.

Other bits.. Loved the part where they showed the world through the Doctor's eyes. Wasn't so sure about the cryptic messages.. would rather be given hints throughout the show like the Bad Wolf messages in Ten's time. Thought the storyline was meh, it was good but it wasn't great. Having said that I really really like the montage of the past Doctors' faces, and then Eleven stepping through Ten's face. Awesome. Also liked how he told off the giant eye, even though I had to stop myself from making Lord Of The Ring jokes.. (The Doctor would so kick Sauron's ass.).. The 'whats to come' bit at the end has me intrigued. Did I spot vampires? And the Doctor with a gun??

Am also curious on how reliant Eleven will be on the sonic screwdriver. Hopefully not so much. Would love to see him fiddle more, rather than the whole 'point-and-voila' thing Ten had going on.

*excited bounce* (Just for you, A)

Can't wait for next week!!

Sometimes, I even out-geek myself

Technically I don't think I've earned the right to cal myself a 'geek', but amongst my friends (from middle school.. junior high.. high school.. uni.. etc..) I'm certainly the geeky-est. Okay fine, I am a bit of a geek. *big grin*

So.. A couple of years back when I got wind of Star Trek being re-vamped I was a little freaked out. And by a 'little', I mean I growled at any of my friends who told me any bits of news and slapped someone who told me when the trailer came out (as if I didn't already know!).. Turns out - I'm in love with the new movie. I mean.. Srsly. Best movie of 2009.

And of course this means I'm definitely getting the DVD. And by DVD I thought I meant just a DVD. Guess what came out? A limited edition DVD with an ENTER-frickin'-PRISE case!! You can imagine how excited I got. But tragedy!! - I was out of town and I underestimated the sheer amount of closet Trekkies and new fans that would get as excited as me when they saw the case!

I was away for a week!.. And that was enough to loose any and all hope of getting the limited edition DVD! *I swoon, I whimper, I faint*

My brother was lucky enough to grab the last one in this record store - and it was a display DVD, it wasn't even supposed to be sold. He kept insisting he wanted that one, and that one only. I panicked and searched all over Jakarta the next day, placing orders at every single shop I visited. Remember how big Jakarta is? And the traffic jams? And the expensive tol roads? And the sheer stupidity of motor cycles here? Yes. I braved all that!

And got nothing!

(This is a long story, I know. But I promise the end is coming..)

So.. I had given up hope and sort of grudgingly admitted to myself I'd have to get the one in metal casing (yeah I didn't want the plastic one either ;P) the next day, as those were rapidly going as well.. But then! GRAMEDIA CALLED.

Gramedia is a chain of bookstores in Indonesia which I used to frequent a lot as a kid - not so much now.. because I have to spend my own money, and I'm permanently broke.

So yes.

They called.

"Excuse me, Ms. Siregar.. Unfortunately we wont be re-stocking the limited edition DVD case of the Star Trek movie." *pause for dramatic effect as I loose all hope* "but we still have a couple at our office." *and BOOM! I jump out of my chair and sort of.. flail my arms.* - At this point I was trying to figure out which Gramedia is closest to my house as I thought I'd prolly have to pick it up.. "If you could give me your full address we can have the DVD deliver via messenger and you can pay on the spot."

And end scene, as I practically faint. Okay exaggeration. But I had to sit back down again.. And then I spent 5 minuted telling the Twitter world just how much I loved Gramedia, and a whole day gloating at my brother since my DVD will be BRAND NEW. *grin*

Here are shit pictures of the DVD :

Technically, the one on display is my brother's, as I don't trust myself to put mine on display just yet. I still keep giggling just at the sight of it. I also make whooshing sound as I transport the DVD from one place to another (it's still in it's plastic covering, and I can't decide which place is safest to store it in).

So.. I LOVE YOU GRAMEDIA. Thank you so much! Talk about customer service ;D

Oh, it must be autumn!

Its not summer..! ITS AUTUMN!

Why? Because I've sort of stuck "autumn" and "happiness" together. So when I'm especially happy, I like to think of it as autumn. Weird? Yes. But why not.

I'm feeling happy because there is an abundance of talented people in this world. These days I've been frequenting Myspace, etsy, deviantArt.. alot. God, the sheer abundance of gorgeous minds available, just floor me. Lovely, lovely, creative, and mind-numbingly brilliant minds..! Its all just.. well, I've been spending years on the net and I haven't run out of things to see and coo over, and wantwantWANT (because the evil internet now supports safer international transactions).

Oh you talented people..!

And you know what.. those are just the well known sites. There's a shit load (pardon my French) of sites promoting communities dedicated to certain 'arts', individual sites showcasing works, and a gazzillion more sites which are just inspirational and just - whoa.

I hate the internet for sometimes making me feel so small, but I love it even more for the sheer abundance of ideas available and the lovely, lovely, lovely people who generously share knowledge, and know-hows (I've even found a tutorial on how to do taxidermy on a rat on dA).

How can you hate the world in an era like this? So many beautiful people to meet and greet, so little time..! So here's my little greeting to anyone who's interested..

HELLO WORLD..!

Yes, its one of those gorgeous days when I wake up and realize I've fallen in love with the world all over again. We have a tumultuous relationship, me and the world - but my baby never dissapoints. It likes to throw me a lifeline now and then when I start to think I'm hitting rock-bottom.

I AM THE GOBLIN KING..!

David Bowie as the Goblin King from Labyrinth. But now.. now.. I am the Goblin King! Yes I am feeling quite silly right now. Other than the fact I've been having a Russell Howard-Jon Richardson podcast marathon, I've just been very giddy.

Presenting.. The source of my giddyness..! The Greatest Present Of All Time.

Yes. Make up. I love, love.. LOVE make up. And nail polish. And colour. I love colour. And make up. I just really love being a girl! *JOY*

And not for any cool reason, or girly facts like 'Oh I like to look pretty', and I have no real skills with make up either! (Unlike my ex housemate, Dinsuy or Neng Tya).. I just really like playing with make up..!

This was approximately 5 minutes ago. Yes - that is blue and pink and purple and silver and green. Crap pic, you can't really see the colours - but yes. It was LOUD and so very funny. I couldn't stop giggling. Its a shame I didn't have any liquid eye liner - I would have drawn all kinds of swirls and lines if I had.

My family complains that I laugh at the randomest thing, at the most random times - its because I sometimes remember the things I get up to when I'm left on my own..! Haha!

But yes.

I love make up. It makes me giddy.

I'm forever a 5 year old, cooing at colours when it comes to make up. I don't know what I'm doing, I just slap it on my face. Its sooo sooo fun.

(David Bowie is up there because as I remembered it, the Goblin King had outrageous make up on - my memory fails me. But I still had fun skipping around my room, wearing a cloak with make up on my face and crowing 'I AM THE GOBLIN KINGGG!!!')

A HUGE sigh of relief.

Please DON'T read on if you haven't yet seen Star Trek and don't want to read spoilers. I wont be talking about the plot per se, but I might accidentally mention things you don't really want to know about.

Now, I may not be as big a Star Trek geek as my brother (who used to buy the freaking magazines connected to Star Trek), but I have enough invested in it that I am filled with glee at the mere mention of the franchise.. Well, a while ago I had a mini freak out on my old blog (here, if you're interested) regarding the upcoming Star Trek movie, and now that its out.. Well the fact I haven't' spontaneously combusted should clue you in to how I'm feeling..!

STARTING MOVIE TALK NOW. LEAVE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW.

...

Oh my FREAKIN' GAWD. It was so made of win. Awesomeness personified. Oh.. oh.. oh. The cast..! The story line..! Ooohh. Oh. Oh. Ohhhh.

I think my heart did a little flutter.. no.. it went flip-flop like a fish out of water.. when I was first given a glimpse of the Enterprise.. NCC-1701! Without letters! I embarrassingly let out a little squeal. She was so beautiful, and shiny and sleek, yet still bulky yet just so gorgeous at the same time (bulky in comparison to how she'd look as NCC-1701-D).. Oh prettyfulness.

Zachary Quinto as Spock was perfect, and I apologize to Chris Pine for ever doubting him.. He had Kirk's swagger down to a T. Brilliant. And Karl Urban as McCoy..! AHAHA! I laughed my ass off at his entrance in the movie. Oh McCoy.. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. :D

Relax, I'm not going to name each and every character and squeal, no matter how much I want to do it. I've only seen the movie twice so a lot haven't sunk in yet (with a movie like this - you need to watch it several times), but I haven't found anyone to be an annoying miss-cast.

So yes.

Sorry for the incoherent blabberings. I don't know where to start!! I do so adore this movie!

Uh..

Okay. Bad/not necessarily good stuff first.

What was up with the huge yet totally unnecessary alien-carnivores chasing Kirk? You might argue that its a plot point to push Kirk along, but I dunno.. And the water in the superbly designed Romulan ship..? And the engineering room looking that primitive..? Water turbines? Really? Did you have to do that?

And Nokia?

Pffthz. Please.

But despite those.. Oh dear Lord, I need to go see this movie again. And soon. All the while the movie was playing I had a commentary going on in my head.. Example? Well : "Oh you silly little boys! Kiss and make up soon wont you? Your friendship is inevitable. Accept FATE! AHAHAHA" was one, amongst the many.

Okay, so I'm still incoherent. I just.. I'm still giddy. So giddy that I think I'll snoopy dance.

Adieu!
